Aliah has been singing all of her life. Family, from a young age, noted her ability to entertain those around her. Teachers commented how she always had a song she was humming or singing along with.
Aliah began taking piano and voice lessons at the age of 8. She continued with voice lessons and was inspired by her early teachers Erin Searson, April Resmer, and Judy. She began lessons with Gloria Jean Nagy from Ottawa at age 11. Though it was over an hour and a half to drive to see Gloria, Aliah benefitted significantly from her instruction.
After encouragement from her vocal coach, Aliah entered the Elite International Music Competition, singing "Ave Maria" (Gounod/Bach) for her audition. She won 2nd place, and earned the honour of performing at Carnegie Hall in NY in March, 2019. She sang "Saper Vorreste" from Un Ballo in Maschera by Giuseppe Verdi.
Later, Aliah enlisted the help of accompanist and coach Larry Tarof. Both Gloria and Larry have had a profound impact on Aliah's vocal journey. Aliah was honoured to be invited to play at the Ottawa Kiwanis Music Festival's Highlights Concert in May, 2024. She has competed at Ottawa Kiwanis since 2020 and has attended the OMFA Provincials competitions in 2022, 2023, and 2024. Most recently, Aliah was awarded the Silver Medal for her Vocal Pop Solo - Self-Accompanied in the 16 and under category, performing "The Joke" by Brandi Carlile and "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay" by Otis Redding. In addition, she won Gold for her duet with Ainsleigh MacInnis, performing "Happy Days are Here Again/Get Happy" in Vocal Pop Duet - 18 and under. In 2023 she earned distinction and medals in two categories as well: Musical Theatre Solo - 16 and Under, and Vocal Pop Solo - Self-Accompanied.
